The Role of a DSP: Making a Difference Every Day
Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are the heart of Shared Wellness.
They empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live meaningful, self-directed lives — and in doing so, they discover new purpose themselves.
Hear from our DSPs about what inspires them, how they grow, and why their work matters.
No two days as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) are ever the same — and that’s what makes this role so rewarding. One day you might help someone plan a healthy meal or try a new yoga stretch; the next, you’re cheering them on at work, joining them for art class, or making their home more comfortable.
Our DSPs come from all walks of life — artists, parents, retirees, graduates, and lifelong caregivers — each bringing their own experiences and heart to the work. What connects them is a shared belief that everyone deserves to live with dignity, purpose, and joy.
Work That Feels Like Living Well
If you thrive on variety, connection, and meaningful days filled with laughter and learning, you’ll find that this work rarely feels like work at all. Every moment is a chance to make an impact — and to grow through the simple, powerful act of supporting others.
Purposeful & Flexible
This work adapts to your life while making a difference in someone else’s. As a part-time DSP in In-Home and Community Supports, you’ll experience meaningful variety — from helping with daily routines to supporting outings, wellness activities, and community connections.
